VAMPIRE

VAMPIRE (Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment) is L3Harris's counter-drone weapon kit: a turreted, four-round LAND-LGR4 launcher for 70mm laser-guided rockets, an EO/IR sensor turret typically raised on a telescoping mast, and a self-contained fire-control and power system, all designed to bolt onto the cargo bed of almost any pickup-truck-class vehicle in a few hours rather than requiring a purpose-built platform. It fires the combat-proven Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II (APKWS II) laser-guided 70mm rocket as its primary munition (Ukrainian units have also fired Thales FZ275 LGR rockets), giving a single operator a low-cost, laser-guided intercept option against small UAS, including FPV drones, without needing an expensive dedicated interceptor missile. L3Harris received a $40 million US contract in January 2023 to deliver 14 VAMPIRE systems to Ukraine as part of a broader security-assistance package; the system has since been credited with shooting down hundreds of drones in combat there and has been demonstrated integrated onto GM Defense's Infantry Squad Vehicle. Production scaled to a dedicated high-volume facility in Huntsville, Alabama in March 2026, and L3Harris has expanded the original truck-mounted design into a wider VAMPIRE family with land, maritime (Black Wake), airborne (Dead Wing), electronic-warfare (Killcode) and containerized (CASKET) variants, alongside continuing orders from the US Army and allied nations.
