Overview
The M1301 Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) is GM Defense's lightweight, deliberately unarmored 4x4 troop carrier developed to give US Army Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (IBCTs) organic squad-level ground mobility that can still be carried internally aboard a CH-47 Chinook or slung beneath a UH-60 Black Hawk. Built on the commercial Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 chassis with roughly 90 percent commercial off-the-shelf components (in partnership with Ricardo, Rod Hall Products and Hendrick Motorsports), it seats up to nine soldiers in a 2/3/2/2 arrangement and is powered by a 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel four-cylinder producing 275 horsepower (205 kW) through a six-speed automatic and two-speed transfer case. The Army selected the ISV in 2020, fielding began in 2021, and by November 2025 GM Defense had delivered 919 vehicles to Infantry Brigade Combat Teams and 186 to the 75th Ranger Regiment against an Army Acquisition Objective of 9,282 vehicles, with an additional 1,275 up-armored ISV-U variants planned for fiscal year 2026. Its explicit design trade-off is speed and airlift-ability over protection: the ISV carries no armor and is not intended for use under direct enemy fire, functioning instead as a rapid, air-transportable way to move a rifle squad and its gear across the battlefield.
