Overview
The Raufoss Mk 211 (US Mk 211 Mod 0 designation; Norwegian designation NM140 Multi-Purpose, current revision F3 as of 2020) is a widely used .50 BMG anti-materiel round combining a tungsten-carbide armor-piercing core, a Comp A-4 high-explosive fill and a zirconium incendiary component behind a brass jacket, with a pyrotechnic fuze that delays detonation until after the projectile has penetrated the target skin. It fulfils NATO STANAG armor-piercing requirements and is rated to penetrate roughly 11mm of rolled homogeneous armor at 45 degrees from 1,000 meters, giving a single .50-caliber round destructive effects against light armor, aircraft, radar equipment and personnel comparable to a 20mm cannon round. It is fired from the M2 Browning heavy machine gun and .50-caliber anti-materiel rifles such as the Barrett M82/M107, and is produced by Nammo along with several US manufacturers under license. It remains in front-line service with the United States military, the Norwegian Armed Forces and numerous other NATO and allied users, and is one of the most widely exported anti-materiel small-caliber rounds in the Western inventory.
